Details of my site

I think the research on the change from Google is interested for me, so I will take this topic. What I am thinking is that it is some kind of the introduction in the cyberspace, so maybe it is hard to present by video. (Or I can find some films from youtube.) Basicly, the content of my site will be most of text and some pictures. There will be three or four pages to show the past, present, and future; that is B.G., A.G., and what it wants to do now.

Actually, Google now is not just a searching engine. It tends to do everything, just like Gmail, Google document, Google scholar, Google function bar, Google blah blah…. And also, Google bought the youtube and Blogger. There is a Google kingdom in the cyberworld and it is going to control anything. I think that Google is so powerful that we cannot ignore the other function now. In this case, I’m affraid that doing every change from Google will be to large, so I will focus on the searching method.

First, I will depict how people get their information, from guides or their friends. Second, I will introduce  a little about what Google is and its history, and how it changes people’s searching behaviors. I think I will talking about the other Google functions, too. The number of page depends on how long it will be, but I expect it will be three or four pages. Every page will have pictures or photos.

If the content above is not enough, I can change the topic from “how Google changes the searching behavior” to “how Google changes everything,” and that could be an introduction of Google history.

This looks interesting, Tony. You’re right that Google has evolved and become more than what it once was. The one interesting thing that I still don’t understand about Google’s initial dominance of the search engine market is what was so good about it v. Yahoo, MSN, AOL, et. al.

Perhaps when it began I was a less sophisticated user and didn’t need to search at a detailed level. Today, however, its dominance in the search engine market and beyond is predicated upon its capabilities and the amount of advertising it has been able to attract as a direct result. It will be interesting to see where it is and where it may go. . .

This topic attracts me a lot. After the emerging of Google, it has brought a lot of impacts into our life and changed many things. However, I think that your research range seems too big because you mentioned Blogger & Youtube. You have to spend a lot of time to collect data and relative materials and do many efforts to analysis them. I look forward to your project, but you should consider about if this topic is too broad.

Try personalizing your topic. Rather than just writing about how Google has changed and has changed the world, write about how it has changed your life. Tell a few anecdotes about exciting things you have discovered through Google. This will be entertaining for readers and will help them relate to you and to your topic.

Back in the “olden” days, i.e. 1996, almost everyone used AltaVista. I too have wondered what Google’s magic ingredient was that turned people’s heads. I think it was a combination of things: their story (two students turn the art of searching on its ear) was compelling and got everyone’s interest; their “don’t be evil” motto was interesting and made them look like “good guys”; and the search algorithm did work well.

After the video Kathy showed us tonight, I see that there are some great stories lurking behind the big G.

I think the term “Google” has become a common word in daily life. “Did you google today?” or “you can google it!” is usually said by me. I believe the advent of Google has changed a lot of things; however, the topic “how Google changes everything” is too broad to research. I prefer the original topic and I also want to know whether Google brought the positive outcome or negative one for users. That means, after Google appeared, do people go to the library for searching more frequently or less? That’s I would like to know.

Tony, I thought of you when I found the Google Video. :)

There are several ways you could frame the story — you could frame it as the evolution of “search” (B.G. and A.G.) or you could look at the evolution of Google. Either fits the requirement of “change.” I think combining them would be more difficult.

Try to develop your text as soon as possible so that you can get feedback from Meg and me (and classmates).
