The first time I heard of Google was computer class in college. My teacher said that there is a powerful search engine named “Google.” At the time, Internet was interesting to me because I didn’t use it very much, thus I grew a strong curiosity for it. I tried Google right away, and was amazing. It showed me hundreds of pages of results in whichever subject I typed in. Soon my searches went from played a part in the great division of the network era.
Google became my primary searching tool. Why is Google so affective? In my experience, it’s clean, easy, and friendly. The interface is simple, and the function is powerful. Its so powerful and useful that it’s become so popular and universal.
How did Google change me? It gave me answers, data, information, and anything I want to know. What’s more, I can do it “at home” instead of going to the library to search all the books. The efficiency of this powerful tool is even more surprising. Any one search on Google won’t take you more than one second. Now when I ask my friends questions of which they don’t know the answer, I always get the response, “Just Google it.” Today, Google is an answer provider.
How did Google change people? Google transfers information to people quicker and easier. People don’t like to spend a lot of time finding answers to questions, thus quicker and faster is all they tend to care about. In this case, Google helps the flowing of information.
The prevailing of Google even leads to the theory of “how to Google.” Some people say they should type in good keywords or they can’t find the information. And I have heard this kind of statement: “When using Google, just look at the first 10 results is okay. If you can’t find it within them, then you don’t have to look at the rest, because the top 10 are the best answers. To look through the rest is a waste of time.”
However, according to the system of Google search, it’s hard to say whether this statement is good or not. Maybe you have known that the order of the searching result is based on the amount of hits on the page, and there is a big possibility to find the information from blogs. One of my friend said, the flood of blogs is deeply influencing the results of a Google search. This means if the blog always has useless content, it will obstruct the flowing of the information. But on the other hand, any words on the internet are very public and could be dug out by anyone. This is the trend of web 2.0.Today, Google is not just a search engine. Instead it has provided many more functions besides searching, such as Gmail, Google talk, and Google toolbar.
Google is so powerful that it has changed me so much, and probably will continue to change me as well as others like me. So everyone says: “This is the era of Google.” Google really has its strong influence, and one day, it will occupy the whole cyberspace.
